Jens Neubert lives in Basel and works as an author and director for opera, theatre and film. He studied Psychology in Dresden, and Opera Direction in Berlin. He has staged several operas with the artist group COOPERA as their producer and director. From 1993 to 1996, Neubert worked as Ruth Berghaus’s personal assistant and referent at the Burgtheater Vienna, the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg, and the Opera Hamburg. He has furthermore worked for Andreas Homoki at the Theatre Basel and for Willy Decker at the Vienna State Opera. He worked as director at the German National Theatre in Weimar, the Theatre Basel, and the German Opera in Berlin. As author and director, he has staged plays at the Thalia-Theater Hamburg, the State Theatre in Kassel, the State Theatre in Cottbus, the Festival Theatre Hellerau, and the Fondation Beyeler. He has developed, wrote and staged plays about Wilhelm Müller (Schloss Georgium in Dessau, 1995), Bertolt Brecht (Thalia Theatre Hamburg, 1998), Arnold Schönberg (State Theatre Kassel, 2000), and Heinrich Heine (Goethe Institute, 2006). Besides his work as director, he gives lectures and functions as a trustee for a private art collection in Zurich. He was a project manager and curator for the DVD special edition of seven Walter Felsenstein films.
